Startup Makeup Kit Essentials
THIS MAKEUP KIT ESSENTIALS GUIDE IS FOR YOU:
If you walk into Sephora or a drugstore and have an anxiety attack from all the choices presented. If you become overwhelmed by what brands to go to or which products are better than the other. Look no further I have put together the startup makeup kit essentials to get you started!
For starters you will need a makeup bag, caboodle, or container to store all your beauty products in.
We’re starting your makeup kit so of course you need brushes. Real Techniques brushes are my favorite. I use these brushes because they are inexpensive and they work as well as the high end MAC brushes. There are sets you can purchase like the Flawless Base Set and the Everyday Essentials Kit work really well. You can also purchase brushes and sponges and brush cleaners for your makeup kit.
Prep Your Face
You will need a skincare regimen that consists of a cleanser and moisturizer that will take care of your skin.
I personally use
Boscia Detoxify Charcoal Cleanser
Peter Thomas Roth Firmx Peeling Gel
Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream Moisturizer.
The charcoal cleanser and peeling gel leaves the skin feeling really clean, but is a bit drying. A good moisturizer is a must have after cleansing the skin.
If you are a Snob on a budget you can find a really good skin care routine with the Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Collection. I have tried that line and plan on adding it to my permanent collection once I’m done with other products.
After getting skincare products you can move on to a primer/toner. A Makeup primer is a base for foundation that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. Formulas are available in cream, gel and powder. A skin toner refers to a lotion or wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores. Toners can be applied to the skin in different ways: On damp cotton wool. (This is the most frequently used method) or spraying onto the face.
My favorite primer is Smashbox Finish Pore Minimizing Primer in the purple tube. It shrinks your pores down so well your skin looks flawless before even applying foundation.
If you are going toner you absolutely need Murad Essential-C Toner. Murad toner is one of the first high end toners I have ever tried cleaned out my pores without leaving my skin feeling stripped afterwards.
Bliss has budgeters covered with the rose gold toner that is absolutely amazing.
Next up is your foundation and concealer. Foundation is a multi-colored makeup applied to the face to create an even, uniform color to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skin tone. Some foundations also function as a moisturizer, sunscreen, astringent or base layer for more complex cosmetics. I personally wouldn’t skip the foundation step in my own makeup routine because I have hyperpigmentation that I cover up with concealer and foundation. If you don’t have skin issues that you are trying to camouflage you can simply use a powder. These are all the foundations I highly recommend adding to your collection at some point:
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation
Make Up Forever Water Blend Face And Body Foundation
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation
Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation
And for my snobie that’s budget conscious you have to have in your collection at all times:
Covergirl TruBlend Matte Made Foundation.
It is the best drug store foundation I have ever used and will probably be the best foundation in your makeup kit since you’re just starting out.
Concealer is not really one of those makeup kit essentials and is optional to wear . Some of the best I have ever used have been some of the cheapest concealers on the market:
La Girls Hd Pro Concealer
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
I also love Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Concealer.
All three of these concealers work to help cover up the blemishes I don’t want to be seen and it doesn’t crease on the skin if I am planning to wear them for long periods of the day.
Your makeup kit essentials should include contour, bronzer, and powder.
Face powder is a cosmetic powder applied to the face to set a foundation after application. It can also be reapplied throughout the day to minimize shininess caused by oily skin. There is translucent sheer powder, and there is pigmented powder.
Contour with recent trends can be something you do or don’t add to your routine, but I feel it is a staple and basically is a way for you to give shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup.
Bronzer is used to emulate a sun-kissed glow and enhance a tan. Bronzing makeup can be used to darken areas of the skin without masking it, or to add warmth. Bronzer is a great way to make your skin look radiant and healthy. Basically, highlighter is face makeup that attracts light, creating the illusion of brightness and height, hence that lit-from-within look.
Powder, contour, bronzer, and highlighter can all be summed up and accomplished with these products
Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette Cream or Powder.
I love both. If you don’t want to spend the big bucks on ABH, you can get a powder contour and highlight palette from The Crayon Case that works wonders called Contoursition.
Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Powder and Mac’s Bronzing Powder.
Becca and Fenty Beauty Highlighter are products you can’t go wrong with.
My must haves are Fenty Beauty Highlighter Trophy Wife and Becca’s Topaz, but both are similar in tone so either will work just fine. In my experience all these things work well together to bring color back to your face and give you the natural glow you need.
Before you put your eyeshadow on you definitely need an eyeshadow primer my favorite is Urban Decay’s Eye Shadow Primer. Eye shadow primer is similar to regular primer in the fact that it gives your eyeshadow a smooth and even surface to be applied to so that the color of the eye shadow can actually show its true colors.
Staple eye shadow palettes are Urban Decay’s Naked, Naked 2, Naked 3, Naked Smoky, Smashbox full exposure and double exposure. With all of these palettes you have more than enough colors to create endless looks. If you want more colors I have almost all of the Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes and they are awesome and inexpensive. So is The Crayon Case Palette Box of Crayons Palette. These palette always give me the color pay out I’m looking for and they go on really smoothly. Without a lot of fall out.
As for eyeliner and mascara, I stand behind L’Oréal infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner and L’Oréal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil. The smoothness of these liners and how easy they are to use to get my winged line is why they are my holy grails.
The mascara you need is Benefit Roller Lash there is no exception or excuse to not have this mascara in your collection. Others I like are Better Than Sex and DiorShow Black Out mascara. I’m a lash girl but sometimes my application skills won’t let me be great I turn my mascara and both these mascaras give me the feel of falsies without the fuss.
Behind every great lip moment is a bomb lip scrub and you must must have Fresh Sugar Lip Scrub for times you feel your lips are dry after you apply the lippies I recommend to you below. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is the lip balm you need in your collection.
Following that bomb lip treatment you need a dope lip pencil. Lip liner, also known as a lip pencil, is intended to fill in uneven areas on the outer edges of the lips before applying lipstick to give a smoother shape.
Lip liner is great for preventing your lipstick from feathering and creating the illusion of fuller lips. My collection consists of NYX lip pencils and Urban Decay lip pencils.
An absolute favorite lippie of mine is Too Faced Melted lippie I have most of the colors. A must have is the Stila Stay All Day. Some of my favorite lipsticks come from Mac, Urban Decay, NYX, or Smashbox you can never go wrong if you pick a color from them.
Too Faced melted lippies have a variety of colors and are not as drying as some lip products. Stila stay all days really means it is going to stay in your lips all day and I love that I am able to eat drink and everything else with my lips still in tack. MAC’s lipstick formulas are absolutely amazing they go on your lips super smooth and they have a ton of colors to choice from while not breaking the bank. Urban Decay has some of the creamiest matte lipstick formulas I have ever come across 1993 is my goto nude lip. I love NYX for that exact same reason I can get a bunch of different colors and have bomb wear without going broke trying to do it. More than likely your makeup kit essentials will have a ton of different lippies.
Set Your Look
To finish this all off you definitely have to spray a finishing or setting spray to hold it all together. Setting spray is a makeup kit essential because it preserves applied makeup for long periods of time. Usually sold in small spray bottles, setting spray is applied by spritzing mist over the face, keeping the make-up application moist for several hours.
My two holy grails are Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying MakeUp Setting Spray and Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water they are both awesome at doing their job. Keeping my makeup on my face In place and I feel like they play a major part in me not having to reapply powder a lot during the day.
