Rihanna Making Fashion History?
Last week I posted a photo of Rihanna rocking a pair of what looked to be Fenty Sunglasses which I dubbed Fenty Frames. I was wondering if she was about to launch an accessory line or if she was just trolling us. Rumors went on in a 24-hour span suggesting Rihanna was going to launch a line of sunglasses and everyone was here for the news. What we did not know was Rihanna had made far more ambitious plans and she was gearing herself up to make history.
WWD and New York Times reported RIhanna was teaming up with LVMH to launch a high end fashion brand. A luxury fashion house has been consistently coveted in fashion and has been off limits to celebrities. Not only has fashion houses been off limits to celebrities, but black women as well.
LVMH taking a chance and launching a new fashion house is a rare occurrence the company only currently has 15 fashion houses on its roster:
I think it’s safe to say Fenty will be joining this list and it is guaranteed to be groundbreaking. Rihanna is highly profitable for a plethora of reasons, her track record speaks for itself and she is consistently trending upward in the fashion industry.
RIhanna’s Track Record:
Rihanna Is A Global Superstar
She won the 2014 CFDA Fashion Icon Of The Year Award
Rihanna Has Hundreds Of Millions Of Followers
She Partnered With Puma In 2014 And Her Shoes and Slides Sold Out
Fenty Beauty Quintupled The Sales Of Kylie Cosmetics
Savage x Fenty Lingerie Debuted Heavy On Inclusion and The Brand Is Doing Well
She Is An Influencer, One Of The Most Trendy Celebrities Of Our Generation
Rihanna has been aligned with fashion since early in her career and took the steps for the industry to take her seriously. Fashion companies rarely like getting in bed with celebrities, but have embraced the partnership between the two industries because of the power a celebrity holds at their fingertips through social media. Seeing your favorite celebrity wear a brand or hot trend makes the fashion brand more coveted and depending on the person the item may sell out quicker. Rihanna has taken fashion by storm and a fashion house is befitting for her. She’s not going to squander her opportunity to dominate this industry and we’re loving every minute of it.
I am completely on board for Rihanna’s new venture and I think the time is long overdue for a black woman to have a fashion house. As much as I wish this would open doors for other black women who want to have their own fashion house’s I don’t think that will happen. Fashion is close knit and this is not an industry looking to risk money or opportunities. The designers are mostly men and very few are black. The tide for diversity in fashion is slowly turning, so while we wait for our turns or just go take it we’re going to applaud Rihanna along the way!
